Lorayne covers many techniques in the tiny book including the Peg technique and the Link technique. Harry Lorayne is often praised in the magic and mentalism communities for his magic memory work so that's one hell of an endorsement if you ask me given these are industries so reliant on memory. There comes a point where instead of discounting memory techniques you actually decide to properly give them a go because the alternative is to be a vegetable by age 35 and mumbling away in an effort to recall your name. For something to become long term you'll have to continue reviewing what you've memorized until it gets locked in the long-term memory. One thing to note is that the techniques used are for short/mid-term memory. The big difference is this book leaves out the reason why it works and just tells you the quick and dirty way to get your memory working for you. From what I was able to search on the internet it seems like all them teach you the same type of techniques. I think there are several other memory books out there, but I haven't read them. What is even more amazing is that I let him keep his list and I was able to recite the list with the same results for the next 6 weeks! I only had to remember the first object, and I would quickly review the list in my head occasionally before I went to bed or when I woke up in the morning. Example: he would call out a number between 1 and 30 and I would respond with the appropriate word in the corresponding spot. I was also able to give him the the word at any point in the list. I could recite the list forward and backwards correctly or at most missing one. I had to spend an hour working my way thru the techniques because I had just learned the techniques, but once I was finished I was amazing. Some were objects, some were foreign words, and others were people's names. A co-worker of mine tried to test my skills and made up a list of 30 completely random words. It may seem difficult at first, but after trying it a few times it will get easier and easier. You must try to use it every day, or like most things involving memory you'll lose it. Once you learn the techniques you'll start applying to your life.

I learned some great memory tricks that have really helped me remember names better and lists. Look up a great interview "Greatest Memory Expert of 20th Century, Harry Lorayne" on Ron White YouTube channel. I didn't really like his method of memorizing cards because PAO (Person-Action-Object) system seems way easier and more natural to me. It seems that there is no place for memory palaces in Harry Lorayne world, and that is fascinating. All these are very practical, and you just need to use them to see how effective they are. There are also techniques that help you memorize faces, names, dates and foreign words. He introduces Word Substitute method, link system, major system (although he never calls it that), peg system (he's using a different approach than the one I'm used to, instead of rhyming (one is a gun, two is a shoe, three is a tree and so on) he is using Major system for pegs, so for example one is Tie because t=1 two is Noah, because n=2, although I've changed Noah to Neo, and so on.) There are great bonuses at the end and I really liked "elevator system" for adding up numbers. It's a nice introduction to memory techniques and I like his hands-on approach.
